Down on the farm

The Cleveland Indians, in the midst of an all important series with the Central leading White Sox, received some good news over the weekend. Their Double A affiliate, The Akron Aeros won the Eastern League Championship. Before you get excited, I understand that the minors focus is on individual players and those clubs that have affiliates in the Eastern League that are struggling have probably called up there better players. However, I feel that the success of homegrown talent in the past and present and the acquirees from recent trades of Bart Colon and others while playing together will ultimately bring some stability to the franchise. Most importantly those players on the Aeros, got to play in pressure packed games and have learned to win all year long and especially when it counts TOGETHER.

Besides winning and knowing how to win, the Indians also have put themselves in a position to add pieces to a puzzle, maybe a closer that doesn't feel like he has to put the tying and go ahead runs on nightly, by trading some of the talent for veterans to help down the stretch.

I'm liking what I see and I hope the city of Cleveland does too. Go Tribe!

What's the difference?

Birmingham has a news station w/a weather section that includes a 'Doppler One Million'. How can there be so many different names for a doppler radar system? I remember when (I'm 27)it was Doppler radar and I expected something fantastic, but it looked like a normal radar. Then came Doppler 2000-Doppler twooooooooo thousand, DOPPLER two thooooooooooooooooousssssssssssssssssssand. It pretty much looked like the old doppler. Then there was Doppler 3,000, and then, and then, and then...well they've eaten up through all the doppler numbers, so I'm just wondering after Doppler One Million what they are going to call it because although funny when I hear the weatherperson call it by it's numbered name, it's also annoying and makes me wonder what the difference is between the original and the 'one million' version.

When it was fun to be a Browns fan.

Bernie Kosar. Kevin Mack. Mike Baab. Frank Minnifield. Hanford Dixon. Eddie Johnson. Reggie Langhorn. Felix Wright. Brian Brennan. Gerald McNeil. MDP. Ernest Byner. Mike Pagel. Don Strock. Cody Risien. Tim Manoa. Webster Slaughter. Ozzie Newsome. Matt Bahr. Clay Matthews. Bob Golic. Al 'Bubba' Baker. Chip Banks. Clarence Weathers. Leroy Hoard. Eric Metcalf.

Rain, snow, wind, gloom, snowballs hitting photographers from the dog pound, old Cleveland Stadium.

This was a hard one to call...

Ah, the choices we make. I was given the choice today of paying $1.61 for a sandwich and 3 cookies today at Subway. The high school girl forgot to add in the sandwich (which was actually on 'special' that day-$1.50 off) and now I was faced with this decision of getting away w/a free sandwich or calling her out and asking her to include it. Being in my mid 20's I've been in her shoes before having someone pay a fraction of what they really owed me and me not figuring it out until later in the night.

In the grand scheme of things would it have been such a big deal?

Yes.

I would have woken up in cold sweat wondering how God was going to get back at me for taking advantage of $2.50 worth of wool I pulled over Subways eyes. I have to chuckle to myself that I thought of so much in such a short period of time.

Yes, Grady. You heard me....

Hear my prediction loud and clear, the AL Central Champs will be the Indians and the ChiSox will not make the playoffs. I know, I know the Tribe has struggled against the ChiSox, however, the ChiSox are playing Minnesota, Detroit and Cleveland to end the year…the Tribe has a much more favorable schedule to end the year and the Yankees/BoSox are not going anywhere, they'll battle too.I think the A's drop off and fall behind the Twins in the Wild Card race. It's not that far fetched in my mind.

In case you haven't noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven't...

Tribe fans, time to put away the brooms for the weekend. Just make sure you remember where you put them. After cleaning house and trading away talent like Bart Colon and Chuck Finley, here they go again on their own. Getting Cliff Lee and Grady Sizemore for Finley could be one of the steals of the century. Lee is a perennial 20 game winner and Sizemore has got to be in the top 5 best players under 24 yrs old. Add Vic Martinez, Jhonny Peralta and solid pitching from Millwood, journeyman Elarton and a strong pen....

I moved from Ohio and now live in B-ham, Al, however if I was within an hours drive I would be at the stadium every day they played at home, ticket prices have dropped and so have the opponents. TRIBE FANS get out and support this team. Huge series against the A's and then against the ChiSox. True Cleveland fans are not fairweather, Browns, Indians and even Cavs' fans are there thick and thin.

Go Tribe!
